Water Droplet Photography - Original work for my SteemitPhotoChallenge Entry

This is the first time I've tried this type of shot, and I'm really happy with the results! I took these images tonight exclusively for the steemit photo challenge.

I set up my homemade lightbox with a glass of water inside it and placed external flashes around the box. After some test shots with a white background, I decided I preferred black. Because everything surrounding the water was white except for the background, a really nice highlighting effect was created on the edges!

I used a syringe to squirt the water into the glass while I had my cable release taking photos about once every second. I held an external flash in one hand and squirted water from the syringe with my other hand!

1/200 of a second might not seem like that fast of a shutter speed, but the effective shutter speed for this shot was actually much faster. This is because every bit of light came from external flash units, which burst light for an extremely short duration of 1/1000 of a second or less. I removed all ambient light, so the camera only recorded the burst of flash. I could actually have used a much slower shutter speed and still seen these sharp results because the camera's sensor was only being exposed to 1/1000 of a second of light regardless of shutter speed.
