There are several species of mint in bloom in my region at the moment.
There is water mint (Mentha aquatica):
Olympus Stylus 1s, 180mm, ISO100, f5, 1/500s
Spear mint (Mentha spicata):
Olympus Stylus 1s, 200mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/60s
Field mint (Mentha arvensis):
Olympus Stylus 1s, 42mm, ISO400, f5.6, 1/60s
Watermint and spearmint can form a hybrid called peppermint (no, I'm not making this up).
The areas where these plants grow smell strongly of mint, and they are good places to take photos of butterflies, as they seem to like the stuff.
A green-veined white (Pieris napi), klein geaderd witje in Dutch:
Olympus Stylus 1s, 300mm, ISO200, f8, 1/320s
An Essex skipper (Thymelicus lineola), called European skipper in North America, zwartsprietdikkopje in Dutch:
Olympus XZ-1, 112mm, ISO100, f5.6, 1/200s
And, of course, the tiny mint moth (Pyrausta aurata), muntvlindertje in Dutch, with a whopping 14mm (0.55") wing span:
Olympus XZ-1, 112mm, ISO100, f5.6, 1/125s
Edit: I just posted another photo of a mint moth here, as promised.
Thanks for watching!
