The Emperor: two so-so photos

I try to avoid posting sub-par photos, but from some attempts, even the best shots aren't up to standard.

Still, when the subject is important enough for some reason, mediocre photos will have to do. So, it is with some uneasiness I present two photos of the rather rare and very big blue emperor (Anax imperator) I saw last weekend.

It wouldn't let me get close, and after an hour of trying and running after it, this is what I brought home:

These dragonflies are big; their body length is about 8cm (3.2)". They are the biggest dragonflies out there and they will chase away or eat all other dragonflies they see. This one is resting after just such an action:
