Both these photos were taken in the Armenveen, part of the Haaksbergerveen, a peat bog near Haaksbergen, The Netherlands.

The white stuff you see in the second photo is common cottongrass (Eriophorum angustifolium) aka bog cotton, often found in peat bogs.
I could sit looking at these scenes for hours, if it weren't for the mosquitos. Those dragonflies really should work harder at catching them.
