CLOSE TO THE CREATURES WITH PAPA - A BLACK PYGMY RATTLESNAKE PLUS BONUS BACKGROUND STORY

Now this was a rare treat!

For years I have said that "You never know what you are going to find, but you find more when you look." I was just discussing this earlier today with @vcelier and @naru-celier. At the time, we did not find anything, but that was not the case on Friday.

On Friday, as we enjoyed a nice vegan meal together I noticed that only @papa-pepper, @vcelier, and @naru-celier had finished eating all the food on their plates. The @little-peppers were slacking. I used this as an opportunity to teach my little ones about the importance of eating all of their food in a timely manner.

I asked @naru-celier if he wanted to go take a look for some snakes. The adventurous young man excitingly replied in a positive manner, so I asked @vcelier the same. As I arose, I told the @little-peppers, "Well, we have finished our lunch, so we are going to go looking for snakes. Enjoy the rest of your meal." (Yeah, sometimes I rub it in a bit and like to put things in perspective for my children.)

OFF WE GO!

The three of us strolled off a few feet away to look around by some nearby buildings. As we were returning (yes, we missed this one the first time) we saw something on the ground next to one of the buildings.

I small, dark snake was coiled up. I had to move some grass to even completely make it out. Though I had never seen one like it, I was pretty sure that it was a Pygmy Rattlesnake that happened to be much darker than any I had seen before.

Every other Pygmy Rattlesnake that I had ever caught looked like the one on the right. The darker one on the left is the one that we found.

IT IS VENOMOUS TOO!

Yes, these snakes have both fangs and venom, so I did not let our guests get too close to it. While waiting to relocate it, I decided to take the time to shoot some photos for all of you to enjoy, or to cringe at, whichever you prefer. Enjoy them, I think that they turned out very well.

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:
