CLOSE TO THE CREATURES WITH PAPA - COPPERHEAD

Finally, a venomous snake!

@papa-pepper has pretty much been interacting with snakes for his entire life. However, I never met any of the venomous ones up in Wisconsin where I grew up. There are two species of venomous snakes that are indigenous to Wisconsin, but they both have rattles, and I never found any of them.

Last year in Arkansas, though, I began to encounter some species of venomous snakes. The Copperhead, as pictured here, was the first. Having a certain respect for and understanding of snakes in general, the transition to interaction with venomous snakes was not that difficult for me. It certainly is a sobering adventure with real risks involved, but since I am aware of the risks and comfortable with the possible outcomes, I do not hesitate to check these snakes out on a closer level.

As you can see from the photos above, the camouflage of the Copperhead is quite remarkable. When you combine this with their nocturnal tendencies, they can pose a certain threat to humans and animals alike. Often, I relocate venomous snakes these days. Technically, it is illegal to kill them in Arkansas unless it is a life or death situation, so I prefer to move them to a safer location, for them and for us.

I’ll share more about this incredible creature later, as I’m trying to keep this one basically a “photo post.” Enjoy the images!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proofs:

Which one do you like better?
