Rather than simply writing about my first six months, I decided to go back to one of my very early posts to illustrate that the steemit experience does get better.
This was my second photographic post, from about my second week on the platform. My original post received 7 votes and earned $0.88, and was seen by only 10 people. Looking back, I'm somewhat surprised I didn't give up. Given the fact that I'm rather pleased with the photos and hardly anyone has seen them, I decided to use them again in this context.
On my original post I essentially had no text. Being new to the platform I assumed that the photos would stand on their own and didn't need any explanation. In retrospect, that was a mistake, although given the fact that hardly anyone saw the post, that obviously wasn't my biggest problem. Here are the original photos for you now, presented with six months worth of experience. At the end of the post I want to share a few thoughts with newbies.
Anstatt einfach über meine ersten sechs Monate zu schreiben, kehre ich stattdessen zu einem meiner frühen Posts zurück, um “Newbies” zu zeigen, dass die Steemit-Erfahrung besser wird.
Dies war mein zweiter fotografischer Beitrag, von meiner zweiten Woche auf der Plattform. Mein ursprünglicher Beitrag erhielt 7 Stimmen und verdiente $ 0.88 und wurde von nur 10 Leuten gesehen! Rückblickend bin ich etwas überrascht, dass ich nicht gleich aufgegeben habe. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass ich mit den Fotos ziemlich zufrieden bin und kaum jemand sie gesehen hat, habe ich mich entschlossen, sie in diesem Zusammenhang noch einmal zu zeigen.
Auf meinem ursprünglichen Post hatte ich im Wesentlichen keinen Text. Da ich neu auf der Plattform war, ging ich davon aus, dass die Fotos für sich sprechen und keiner Erklärung bedürfen. Im Nachhinein war das ein Fehler, obwohl angesichts der Tatsache, dass kaum jemand die Post gesehen hat, war das offensichtlich nicht mein größtes Problem ;-) Hier sind nun die Originalfotos, präsentiert mit sechs Monaten Erfahrung. Am Ende des Posts möchte ich ein paar Gedanken mit Neulingen teilen. 
Salzburg
Situated directly on the border to Germany and the Alps. It is an exceptionally beautiful city with about 150,000 permanent residents. It's historic center draws throngs of tourists from all over the world, who are enchanted by the Baroque architecture and surrounding alpine landscapes which are the visual backdrop of the film, “The Sound of Music.”
Salzburg is also the birthplace of Wolfgang Armadeaus Mozart, and visitors also flock to his beautifully restored birthplace. There are three universites, countless parks, outdoor café and restuarants, an exchanted pedestrian zone, castles, palaces, and much more.
Most tourists cross these bridges in the distance to enter into the historic part of the city. I want to show you a different side of Salzburg. Rather than crossing these bridges, we will walk away from the Alps along the Salzach River. If you happened to see my post about the magnificent Krimml Waterfalls, that is the source of much of the water you see here. Eventually it will end up in the Black Sea.

Direkt an der Grenze zu Deutschland und den Alpen gelegen, ist Salzburg eine außergewöhnlich schöne Stadt mit rund 150.000 Einwohnern. Ihr historisches Zentrum zieht zahlreiche Touristen aus aller Welt an, die von der barocken Architektur und den umliegenden Alpenlandschaften verzaubert werden. Diese Lanschaft bildet übrigens die visuelle Kulisse des Films "The Sound of Music."
Salzburg ist auch der Geburtsort von Wolfgang Armadeaus Mozart und viele Besucher strömen auch in sein wunderschön restauriertes Geburtshaus. Es gibt drei Universitäten, unzählige Parks, Straßencafés und Restaurants, eine verzauberte Fußgängerzone, Schlösser, Paläste und vieles mehr.
Die meisten Touristen überqueren diese Brücken in der Ferne, um in den historischen Teil der Stadt zu kommen. Ich möchte euch eine andere Seite von Salzburg zeigen. Anstatt diese Brücken zu überqueren, gehen wir entlang der Salzach in die Gegenrichtung. Falls du meinen Beitrag über die grandiosen Krimmler Wasserfälle gelesen hast, sie speisen diesen Fluß, der irgendwann im Schwarzen Meer endet.

We are moving away from the other tourists and the crowds in the narrow pedestrian zone. Here we will cross the river and begin climbing a the hills. It is possible to walk all the way to the castle at the end of the ridge.
Here it is quiet and peaceful, there are shade trees, and fantastic views of the city.
Eine andere Seite von Salzburg
Wir nehmen Abschied von den anderen Touristen und den Menschenmassen in der engen Fußgängerzone. Hier überqueren wir den Fluss und beginnen die Hügel zu erklimmen. Es ist sogar möglich bis zur Burg am Ende des Bergrückens zu laufen.
Hier ist es ruhig und friedlich, es gibt schattenspendende Bäume und fantastische Ausblicke auf die Stadt.
Surprise!
Eventually, we reach the Stadt Alm. That's a difficult thing to translate into English. In the alpine regions, younger cows are driven up the mountain to meadows to graze in late spring. The farm hands who takes care of them, make various dairy products, and sometimes provide wandering tourists with an opportunity to get something nourishing to eat during a hike. Here, even though we're just above the city, there is a Stadt Alm which has the atmosphere of the Alms you might encounter in the mountains, albeit with a considerably larger menu ;-)
From here we can continue along the ridge, but instead let's take a narrow path that winds down to the historic part of the city. 
Überraschung
Schließlich erreichen wir die Stadt Alm. Das ist schwer ins Englische zu übersetzen. In den alpinen Regionen werden jüngere Kühe im späten Frühjahr zum Weiden auf die Wiesen getrieben. Die Hirten, die sich um sie kümmern, stellen verschiedene Milchprodukte her und bewirten manchmal wandernde Touristen. Hier, obwohl wir gerade über der Stadt sind, gibt es eine Stadt Alm, die tatsächlich die Atmosphäre der Almen hat, die man in den Bergen finden kann, wenn auch mit einer wesentlich größeren Speisekarte ;-)
Von hier aus können wir den Grat entlang fortsetzen, aber stattdessen nehmen wir einen schmalen Pfad, der sich in den historischen Teil der Stadt schlängelt.
Viele Leute bemerken die wunderbaren Zunftschilder der verschiedenen Geschäfte nicht - ich finde sie wunderschön!

A few thoughts for newbies
It is impossible to give advice because we are all so different, but if I could go back and offer my own newbie self some advice, here are four things I would mention.
1 Before you start posting, take a few weeks and get familiar with the platform. Look for tags that interest you and check out lots of posts. Read tutorials, @sndbox is a good source. Understand what works and why.
2 There are some very supportive creators on the platform who will reward sincere, thoughtful, and original comments. If you surf your interests for a couple of weeks, you will find them. When you do, write such comments. If your comments elicit sincere responses, then follow such people.
3 Don't be too quick to follow all those who follow you. If you are selective you can have a very manageable feed, support those who support you, and have time to surf around the platform.
4 If you have a particular interest, or speak a language other than English, get into some kind of chat.
Ein paar Gedanken für Neulinge
Es ist unmöglich, einen Rat zu geben, weil wir alle so verschieden sind, aber wenn ich mir selbst einen Rat hätte geben können, hier sind vier Dinge, die ich gern vorher gewusst hätte.
1 Bevor du mit dem Posten beginnst, solltest du dir einige Wochen Zeit nehmen und dich mit der Plattform vertraut machen. Such nach „Tags“, die dich interessieren, und ruf viele Beiträge ab. Lies Tutorials, @sndbox ist eine gute Quelle. Versuche zu verstehen, was funktioniert und warum.
2 Es gibt einige sehr hilfreiche Contentschöpfer auf der Plattform, die ehrliche, nachdenkliche und originelle Kommentare belohnen. Wenn du dein Interessensgebiet für ein paar Wochen surfst, wirdst du sie finden. Wenn du sie findest, schreib solche Kommentare. Wenn du auf deine Kommentare ehrliche Antworten bekommst, dann folge diesen Leuten.
3 Sei nicht zu schnell damit all denen zu folgen, die dir folgen. Wenn du selektiv bist, kannst du einen sehr überschaubaren Feed haben.
4 Wenn du ein besonderes Interesse hast oder eine andere Sprache als Englisch sprichst, ist Chatten zu empfehlen.
