Last Weekend of Summer - Scripps Pier Fall Sunset

Photoblog by @runrudy

The last weekend of the summer. When my kids are back in school, I know that summer is now officially over. The weather is finally cooling off and that crisp fall wind is starting to roll through. I can never complain about weather because I live in San Diego. Yet, fall is my favorite time of the year because the beaches start clearing out and all the tourist have driven their double wide RVs home. I like to avoid the crowds, so I am finally able to find parking at the beach. I am excited to start heading back over to the beaches again to capture sunsets.

This is my favorite pier to photograph in San Diego. I remember taking this photo. I live 30 minutes from the beach. So, I never know what the weather will be like when I get to the beach. When I arrived I saw the thick marine layer and clouds and knew it would cover the sunset. I still setup and decided to stay. Another photographer came out with the same idea. Weather never works out they way you want. It was ok because we ended up chatting about life and photography. Like were were fishing with no bites. It is always nice to meet another enthusiast.

Then the photog Gods gave us a small peek and slightly cleared the clouds. We ran over with our cameras and got to work. We were firing off frames like we just paid full price for a buffet that was closing in 2 minutes. The sun goes down pretty quick when it is at the horizon. You have very little time to get it right. The sun finally dipped down. We compared our catches with each other. Gave each other high fives and were content with the outcome. This is not my best shot of Scripps pier but it was a good memory and I met a cool dude.

Enjoy.

Hope you enjoy my photography.
