Photographing Boats On The Hozu River - Highlights Of Traveling Japan

The Hozugawa 保津川 River is well known in Japan. The scenery makes for some spectacular views, especially durring cherry blossom season and when the leaves change in the fall.

The river runs through the Arashiyama district in Kyoto and along the Sagano Bamboo Forest.

Michelle and I were able to walk around most of the Arashiyama district and when we came to the Hozu River we stopped to watch the pleasure boats go by.

Arashiyama is now a very popular tourist spot. Some come for the landscape, others for the history and culture. During the Heian Period (794-1185), the Japanese nobility would enjoy the scenery and cruise down the very same river.

Michelle and I took a month to travel across Japan and China this past May. It was epic! Follow me @slickwilly and Michelle @curiouser for posts about our adventures!
