Beautiful Sunday at a Bulgarian Xmas party
Today another of the numerous Christmas celebrations took place in Munich, this time from the Bulgarian school where my little one is learning about tradition, culture and language in Bulgaria every Saturday morning.
She did what she loves so much, performing on stage - think the class did not really do a lot rehearsals so she was not entirely happy with the performance but at least she received some chocolate and other nice things from Santa Claus! More on the performance later :-).
Christmas in Bulgaria - some facts
In Bulgaria Christmas is officially celebrated on December 25th even many Eastern European countries celebrate on January 7th. The Bulgarian Orthodox Church uses the Gregorian calendar, so Christmas in on the 25th December like in the Western World.
Many Bulgarians, at least the ones into tradition start preparing for Christmas start with Advent. Int contrary to our Advent the Bulgarian lasts 40 days starting November 15..
The Christmas Eve (aka 'Badni Veche') is a very important day for Bulgarians when the main Christmas meal is served too which includes an odd number of dishes (7, 9 or 11) which usually are traditional food, salt, pepper and sugar can count as separate dishes to make it easier for poor families.
One nice tradition is around the always required Pita bread which is decorated and included a coin baked in it - no Steem Coin I think yet. the one finding this coin will have a luck next year.
