Real Life Captured on the Streets of Thong Sala, Island of Koh Pha Ngan Thailand (28 photos and historic description)

Thong Sala is the main town on the island of Koh Pha Ngan in the Gulf of Thailand. This island was inhabited about two thousand years ago based on the archeological discovery of a bronze drum of the Donson Culture dating back to 500 BC. Over the centuries Malay Sea Gypsies have inhabited this Island. About 400 years ago the town of Thong Sala was established by Buddhist Monks who found this place to be full of incredible natural beauty.

Thong Sala is in the flat, easier to develop south western part of the island. In the early 1900s, King Rama V visited this island over a dozen times with his royal entourage of abut 30. They enjoyed swimming, relaxing, exploring, and enjoying the natural beauty of this very special place.

Through out most of 1800s and 1900s coconut farming, fishing, and tin mining have been the main industries on the island. Now in more modern times, the island has become a very popular backpacker destination. Tourism is now the main source of revenue. The Beach of Haad Rin is home of the famous Full Moon Party.

The other day I went to check out what was going on in the main town. Here are the real life photos I got!
