ORIGINAL POEM - A Minnow Named Bill

Artwork by my friend Rocio.

There once was a minnow named Bill.
Lost in the content mill.
Up and down he swam.

"Watch it kid! Scram!"

He knew there was more to life,
than just getting by,
all his friends refreshed their stats,
and stayed up getting high.

His momma loved him dearly,
wanted all the best,
he wanted so badly to finally leave his nest.

His friends didn't get it,
Told him to just fit in,
his sights were set,
on becoming a true linchpin,

He had heard tales once before,
"Ah rubbish! folklore"
But Bill was determined, his soul set free
He desired
to watch the giant creatures roam the sea

So he set out to find them,
elude him they did,
The whales, apparently like to stay hid.
Up the stream, came a life changing encounter
A beautiful dolphin peaked out from her browser

"Hello there little minnow...
What brings you here?"

"My dreams are bigger than under the pier."

Debbie the Dolphin admired his spirit,

He put in the work, and choose not to fear it.

"How can I help my new friend?"

"An upvote, for some Steem to spend."

"I'm heading up north, if you'd like to follow."

"His eyes lit up...

Whales lived off the coast of Sao Paulo."

For many days they scoured the web,
bumping into the occasional celeb.

Hope was waning,

Bill grew tired. Long were the days since he was inspired.

Then out of nowhere Debbie let out a squeal,

A whale had been spotted. This was for real.

Bill couldn't believe what he saw, his mouth agape
full of awe.

The whale made a splash, then went back to hiding,
doing his job, content diving.

It was getting late,
time to say goodbye,

Debbie did her best not to cry.

"See you next year silly, she said,"

And Bill headed home with a bright future ahead.

He zigged and he zagged
and sped back to the pier,

Where life had remained without a hint of cheer.

A taste of the future..
what could be.
'Home' and and alone
yet full as the sea

His journey was worth it, his dreams renewed
He could do anything with the right attitude.
