Adorned by royalty.
It was the purple craze,
Color like clotted blood.
The Emblem of elites,
Costly than golden rings.
Yesterday's luxury, Now today's commodity.
The merchant's Fantasy.
It was the Tulip madness,
The price of a dozen sheep.
The path to quick riches,
The Greedy man's agony.
The floral of Eden, Now grows in my garden.
The driver of worlds economy.
It was the uncommon salt,
The origin of the word salary.
The builder of commerce,
The monopoly of emperors.
The workers' reward, Now sits in my cupboard.
