CAPITULATION - a poem by @bennettitalia

CAPITULATION

It took so much
The sheen from puddles on cobbled streets
The cat's eye flatly mirroring
Headlights lost in a twilight drizzle
The ghostly glow of a single phone
In an otherwise unlit room
Reflected wetly
In two pairs of eyes
Unblinking
Sparks leaping across synapses
Intercontinental flights blinking
Trails of luminous green afterimage beads
As lights go out across the world
In a sinuous slo-mo wave
A capitulation
To darkness
Which
Let's be honest
At this point seems tireless
As if it could go on forever
And perhaps it could
Who knows?

Ok,
I give.
It took this much for me to remember:
Sleep
One of my dearest loves
Whose seductive sideways glances
I can no longer neglect.
