On The Surface of the Flat Green Sea
An Original Poem by @CarlieEster
You’re an ocean of arms
and tears of rippling waves come bursting through the seams
but for all the tripping and the tensing
I will not break you
thunder has its pockets full
of promising a gloomy sky
and swells so far below the surface of the earth
I lie in the centre, shy
to erupt a volcanic voice
we howl together
while the pressing of the wind bears down and beads of sweat
form pearl necklaces
on your skin
the force of lightning bolts and shrieking cats
and pressure on the damn
belly of the whale
I swallowed you whole, just like i promised
but i will not break you.
I will take you, and swallow you in my wake
a ship beneath swells and swirling waters
sucking you in until the stars surround your eyes and all this time
you knew the world was flat
ebbing on the belly of the whale
all a round
all a rounded storm with heaving, rocking back and forth
‘til baby’s quiet
in the belly of the whale
I promise not to break you
but we will howl together on the surface of the flat green sea.
