“I address you all tonight for who you truly are: wizards, mermaids, travelers, adventurers, and magicians. You are the true dreamers.”
– Brian Selznick –
I saw a mermaid today.
In my case, seeing a mermaid is surely enough to trigger the poetry in my soul...

Today, I Saw A Mermaid
~A Poem~by Duncan Cary Palmer
Today, while dining with my friend,
I saw a mermaid fair.
"Why is she here?" I wondered.
For breakfast, to be sure.
Along with several homeless,
yet seeming less distressed...
If you call the sea your home,
you're more composed, I guess...
Glittering sequins form her gown,
so much like a long tail.
Aquamarine makeup,
has overcome her pale.
She has an air about her...
Could she be still wet?
I dare not follow her abroad,
as we have not yet met.
Perhaps she's headed for the sea?
Her cherished, watery home?
I find myself in wonder still:
Might she be all alone?
Oh, that I'd followed on!
A mermaid!
