Towards Freedom [Original Poem]

"Is freedom anything else than the right to live as we wish? Nothing else." - Epictetus

Towards Freedom

by @getonthetrain

There is no way I am alive
To just pay bills and die
Live this world they contrive
And then checkout - goodbye

If that was the case
I would not even try
Even if all the human race
Was willing to comply

There is more to life
Than working for the man
Become lord of your own fife
If you want it, you can

Keep it in perspective
I’ll do what it takes to be free
It’s my only objective
I think about it constantly

No one dying has ever said
They wished they worked more
From their death bed
It’s a warning I don’t ignore

We are all just tokens and chips
In the ruling elites big game
Controlled by lashings from their whips
Like wild animals once free now tame

I broke my conditioning
They tried to control me
Now I’m positioning
My pieces to flee

There is so much life to enjoy
When you’re not concerned
With obtaining the latest toy
Using money yet unearned

My great escape
Will be unnoticed
My life reshaped
In lands remotest

My brothers and sisters
I shall soon be out there
Free from government sinister
And duped people unaware

I'll have my cabin surrounded by trees
King of my castle, to be finally crowned
Where freedom rides the breeze
And wild animals run all around
