Ever Had One of These Days? (Poem: Under the Duvet)

duvetday.jpg

Today, I think the poem says it all...

Its all unfair
A present for her friend
And I dare
Not to spend

A penny on her whims
Dug her heels in
Crying screaming hymns
Determined to win

On the store floor
Still squealing
As I walked out the door
Calm, yet reeling

In the end
I took her hand
Spoilt weekend
No party as planned

Homeward bound
Every step is war
Fun uncrowned
Can’t take anymore

Put her in her room
Shut the door
Still doom and gloom
Patience is sore

Time stands still
As more shouts
Are insufferably shrill
And parenting doubts

Falls hard on shoulders
Crushing blow
The eye smolders
Begin to flow

Time to hide
Under the duvet cover
Blurry eyed
A moment to recover

And escape the noise
Diffuse the ticking
Gain some poise
A mental kicking

The tears won’t stop
Hers or mine
Hard to stay on top
3 hours of whine

Back to reality
It’s still going on
I can’t flee
She’s my spawn

At last peace
Stood my ground
Crying ceased
Silence found.

Lesson learned?
We will see
For now adjourned
Time for tea.
