My You [An original poem]

A poem of unrequited love, from the heart of a horror author...

Sometimes you just have to get it out.

I knew the sound of your laugh before you did.

Before the air had a chance to escape your mouth and chime those dusty bells, I heard it.

Unmistakable.

Flawless

It echoed in your first hello,

resonated through your first impression,

topped my charts from the first frail touch of ourselves,

and reached its crescendo, never.

Your undying swan song.

I fell in love.

Seconds, minutes, hours and days resemble a blur,

leaving one feature of focus clear and resolute in every puddle drop.

Wrinkles creep upon my face, sharing experiences of mirth and sorrow,

yet you remain untouched.

Your birdsong resounds in the hollows of my skull, untouched, unfading, repeating,

repeating,

repeating,

never-ending.

Time may escape me and my watch may run away the hours,

but you remain my standstill point;

my point against which all other moments are measured and evaluated,

my frame of reference for past memories and unknown futures,

my solid, golden state of goodness.

I knew the sound of your laugh before you did.

Before the air had a chance to escape your mouth and chime those dusty bells, I heard it.

Unmistakable.

Flawless.

My David.

My Sistine Chapel.

My greatest accomplishment.

My you.
