My Gay Friend (Original Poem)

My dear gay friend
How brave you are
My dear gay friend
I've always loved you as you are

Your sexuality means nothing to me
But in society today,
we know it means something

Everyday you are faced
With disapproving eyes and judgment
Little people who know so little of you

They see you hold hands with a man
And never once stop to think,
"oh look at the love they hold"
"look at the joy they spread"

All they see is what they want
An unnatural bond between 2 men
When really, it is they who are unnatural

Love is natural
Passion is key
Hate is acquired
It's what only the nasty see

But you are my friend
And oh I love you so
Your happiness is all that matters to me
To hell with what the others show

No eye of judgment shall ever define you
Your life is yours
Do with it what you shall
