Loneliness Is My Friend ( A Poem About My Autistic Son's Quest To Find Acceptance and Friendship)

Loneliness Is My Friend

As I stared across the field
The neighborhood kids were playing happily
Why don’t they ask me to play
Loneliness is my friend

My school mates laughed as I walk past them
I just can’t help wondering
Were they laughing at me
Loneliness is my friend

They poked fun at me
And said I acted funny
My tears can’t wash the hurts away
Loneliness is my friend

I know that I am different
I stick out like a sore thumb
Why can’t they just accept me
Loneliness is my friend

As the years slipped by
The scars remain
I have embraced loneliness
But now I finally have some friends.
