The Children of Never, Find Always (Poem)

Last year, I received some heartbreaking news about one of my favorite students... so I dealt with it by writing, which I haven’t done in a long time. One of my boys paid me the highest compliment- “Miss, you got bars!” This is my love ballad for my students.

The Children of Never, Find Always

They only see the children of never
Potential aggressor
The hand brake just out of grasp
They stand aside, impatient for the impending crash

But I have the sight
These kids have the key
To race away from poverty

Their trust is a treasure
Their laughter, my pleasure
Quiet and defiant
Tires ready to weather this climate

Give them the power
Unlock the tower
They will be self reliant
You can't force their silence.
