Poetry Slam Challenge #2: (Jagged Prison of Stone and Blackness)

Below is my humble contribution to the #poetryslamtwo contest.  I hope to tell another perspective of the story of the fallen angel Azazel, leader of the Watchers.  My inspiration comes from the version of events as told in the book of Enoch.  Mine is a tale of freedom from all forms of oppression on earth.

Jagged Prison of Stone and Blackness (The story of Azazel)

Enoch tells of Azazel’s crime

Against the Creator

He was punished by time

For teaching man to strive for more

Sharing knowledge to empower

Lifting his status to that of king from poor

Women taught the art of seduction

Aiding progress and success

At the cost of fools deserved destruction

Time spent for millennia in the blackness

Amongst the rocks of complete desolation

In isolation he lies in wait of Judgement’s harshness

A time when the world will burn

Humanity nearly fully corrupted

The fallen Watcher will return

Joining the ranks of those destined to be cast aflame

Awaiting their place in the infernal empire

For eternity burning in evil untamed

So the story goes, perhaps written by those

Who desire an outcome of particular persuasion

The actual events no one knows

Just perhaps the fallen one of the Watchers

Will return in anger to reclaim his glory

Seeking revenge and punishing his captors

Ushering in a new era

Of freedom from religious oppression

Arising from the tomb of darkness and sierra

History is always written by the victor of battle

Truth obscured and smeared, faded by time

Azazel the fallen angel will return

Freedom’s sword he doth rattle
