I mostly stay away from U.S politics, because it's so partisan and insane. Neither do I like the two main parties nor their candidates. But sometimes something comes along where it's so crazy it transcends the left/right nonsense.
For those who might not have the whole picture, here's a quick recap.
In light of recent damaging undercover stings showing CNN employees saying shady things, President Trump decided to share a wrestling meme of himself hitting someone with the CNN logo as their head.
CNN then decided their best response would not be to meme an extremely memeable president in return, but instead to act extremely butthurt. This culminating of the doxxing of the guy who originally created the meme and threatening to throw their multi-billion dollar corporate weight into exposing him, scaring him into an apology. Very scary, but so far within the law.
However, in the extremely gross article declaring victory over said memer they wrote:
"CNN is not publishing "HanA**holeSolo's" name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behaviour on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same."
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change."
No, no, no CNN, you can't do that. Apart from that being possible law breaking on your part (Google coercion law) millions of people make memes every day, I among them. They don't see that meme as a death threat to you, they see it as a 4/10 shit meme that might have raised a chuckle or two but would have been forgotten soon.
By your lack of a sense of humour and severe overreaction you've effectively declared war on 4 Chan and half the internet. Good luck with that.
You've also opened up your employees to doxxing, what's good for the goose is good for the gander right?
