She bought into my positivity...

Please note that this is not fictional. The write-up you are about to read tells the story of one of the most awesome moments of my life so far...

...Present day...

So my name is Olukayode, simply referred to as Kay by close friends and confidants. Among other qualifications, I hold a bachelor's degree in philosophy. Coincidentally, my partner of about five years now, Tosin (Tee) also holds the same degree. Why am I telling you this? Well, because she plays a key role in what you are about to read.
So moving on... You see, before Tee was my partner, she was first my coursemate, and the story I'm about to tell happened way back in our undergraduate days...

...About four years ago...

It was mid semester, another normal day on campus, and everything felt routine as usual. Tee and I had just left a medieval philosophy class and we were headed for the last class of the day, Symbolic Logic. It was a class i looked forward to because I loved all courses that looked in any way like math. However, Tee wasnt so enthusiastic about this class. She hated logic, and the method of the lecturer in charge was not helping matters as well. All Tee wanted was to go through the motions, pass the hour, and head back to the hostel. Fate however, had something else in store for the both of us...
Soon as we entered the lecture theatre, we heard the news: an impromptu test for 40% of our semester total. I was always prepared, but then Tee wasn't... Fast forward an hour later, and she was all tears, she had performed very poorly.

What could i do? I never had the knack for offering sympathy, i only knew how to be positive. So in her tears, i promised her, "Tee, you wont fail this course, and I'm certain of it." I can imagine you wondering what magic i wanted to perform... Well, keep on reading...

...A day before exams...

Tee and I sat at the buttery behind the department building. We laughed and made jokes about the people in our lives. Things were fun again, and we were confident even if our exams begin tomorrow with logic as the first paper. But why this sudden confidence?
After the test experience, i had personally handled a few tutorials for my classmates (Tee included). I tacitly, but consistently praised her in the presence of our fellow coursemates, insisting that she had a knack for logic much more than I who tutored them. All she had to do i said, was realize it herself. Slowly, she began to believe, and in the spirit of this slowly building confidence, she started moving ahead of us in terms of topics. At a point, i even started believing truly that i needed her tutoring, and i dont know how, but she made logic her bitch (pardon my language)...

...Day of results...

Here i am, bundled on the floor by a super excited Tee. She cant stop screaming, she is too excited, and i am confused. Why? Because at this point i am at a loss as to the source of her joy...
"Tee, what is it, did we win the lottery?" i ask with a bemused smile...
"Kay, I cant thank you enough, your promise came true." she replied...

Alas, she made 60% full marks in the exams, i myself had excellent results too but not full marks... All because she bought into my positivity!
