An environmental portrait can loosely be defined as a portrait executed in one's natural environment, and typically illuminates the subject's life and surroundings. Please enjoy my environmental portrait and outdoor portrait entries for this week's Portrait Photography Contest.
If anybody is curious as to the lighting setup of any of the images, or the process behind them, I'd be more than happy to illuminate! ;)
- The following portraits were taken in collaboration with the lovely model and artist Miss Mandible. She was drawn to my photography, and I was drawn to her style, so we chose a versatile location and had at it. Here was the result.

- The following portraits were taken for a national college textbook company. They hired me to create some fresh content for their website, to showcase college life: stylish college students on a college campus with their textbooks. I hired five models and photographed on a beautiful college campus in Salem, Oregon. Here was the result.
- The following portraits were taken in collaboration with the lovely model Elizabeth Ruth. She and I drove up to the top of Mt. Hood and shot at lovely Timberline Lodge in Portland, Oregon. Here was the result.
- This portrait was taken in collaboration with the lovely model Amanda. It's incredibly difficult to choose a favorite shoot that she and I created together, but... this may be the one. She called me up and said she wanted to shoot that afternoon, because the leaves were gorgeous, and the upcoming weather forecast of rain would muck them all up. I told her I had the perfect location, and we headed out into the woods. Here was the result.
- The following portraits were taken at a photography meetup. For a short time, there was a great group of cats calling themselves the Strobist Group. They usually met up in Portland, Oregon, but this particular meetup was down in my neck of the woods, in Salem. I met some really excellent photographers in that group, who, even though I now live happily in New Orleans, Louisiana, enjoy following their super cool photography work on instagram. I digress. Here was the result.
As always, a big thank you to @jasonrussell for hosting this super fun contest! Thank you to @axeman for being the guest judge! Thank you to @crimsonclad & @melodyrussell for being the sponsors! Also, of course, thank you to @akrid and the whaleshares community!
