We had a blast on the river, I got a pretty decent sunburn with a pretty funky design on my stomach from all the sunscreen.... meh price you pay for fun in the sun!
We started by leaving our car at Papermill Dam and getting a ride from Mel’s father out to the rifle range. Best jump off point safe for pretty well anyone rather then the sketchy hill down to the bottom of Stamp Falls. I said this already but Do Not go from above Stamp Falls at the provincial park, it happens at least once a year and I do not want to hear about someone saying @D00k13 said it was safe!
Starting off is pretty slow and relaxed, have to avoid the shallow spots but nothing extreme. Good swimming hole with a rope swing near the beginning and also a perfect place to relax in the edy. We took a couple turns on the swing before saying hi to our onlooker, timid female dog, then headed on back down the river.
We found an area of the riverbed completely covered with mussels, I still am uncertain if freshwater mussels are edible. Shortly after that we saw our first eagle, that’s right first eagle. We saw a total of 7 bald eagles some were still getting their white colourings being first year offspring I would imagine. We stopped for a snack right below their hunting tree, with one sitting 40 feet from us. To bad the sun and angles were all wrong to get a clear picture but my next vlog has a fair amount of flying footage none the less.
We saw many people on the river, it was particularly busy in some areas seemly the hot spot hangouts. Areas with good swimming holes or areas to jump off the rocks or other features always draws people to stop. We were on the water for a total of 3 1/2 hours with 30 mins or so stopped in the shade for one reason or another, for the sake of saving my skin we didn’t stop anywhere I could not hide in the shade. Something I have learned about myself, protect my head from sun and wear lots of sunscreen. Even if I have a good tan I will still burn and I am fairly pail this year.
The best part of the whole ride is at the end, right at Papermill Dam. Sure if you want to just do the epic rapids over and over walking up stream as if you were sledding, you could just tube at the dam. If you want that relaxing swim and sun with ever changing scenery and the opportunity to catch some wicked wild life shots then you need to go from the rifle range and endure the 4 hours of sun.
Don’t be surprised by the kids at the river standing directly in the way, it is a game to see who can catch a ride on the tubers as they pass. For footage of this epic finally scene uncut till we literally mow the kids down with out tube watch part 2 of my vlog, finished editing now uploading depending on how long it takes I may submit tomorrow morning.
Thats it @d00k13 OUT
