A day out cycling in L'Albufera de Valencia, with lunch and a walk on the beach

Cycling: L'Albufera de Valencia, Spain

There's nothing like a bit of fresh air and exercise to raise your spirits and mood. Fortunately, Valencia is a top location to get on yer' bike and hit the road. A flat part of Spain allows even beginner cyclists to get around the city and the surrounding areas without too much trouble - unless you are out and about in summer and it's minimum 35 degrees!

The region of Valencia we traveled around is called L'Albufera. It is a freshwater lagoon and estuary on the Gulf of Valencia located in eastern Spain. This part of the country is famous for its rice production and is also a nature reserve.

Let's go!

The planned route would be around 70km. I can admit we got a little lost on a couple of occasions, and faffed about looking for a good spot for lunch so in total i think we traveled around 80km. Sounds like a lot, but spread through 5/6 hours it isn't so bad - very enjoyable in fact!

The first part of the journey was to the south of the city and through some of the smaller towns and villages. We wanted to travel to the west of 'Pobles Del Sud', L'Albufera and around these rice producing wet-lands, as we'd done the 'sea-side' route a few times before and were planning that path for the way home.

mmmmm Rice

Refreshments

This first section took hours and we were proper hungry on arriving in El Perellonet. We found a place serving 'Menu del Dia' which included 3 courses and a glass of wine for 11 euros. The food turned out to be really well presented and tasted good - not always the case but this time we got lucky.

Time for a rest...

The road is long, but not so long when you can just hop off your bike and lay down. Wall, or beach, it's your choice!

I'm grateful for having this year in Valencia, it's a really sweet part of Spain and I've enjoyed it very much. Where will we be cycling next year I wonder?.....

Thanks for reading today!
