Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens
There is nothing better than spending the Easter long weekend with your family.
Therefore I thought it only appropriate that our game review this week be something that the whole family can enjoy. This might look like the kind of game only younger kids could find enjoyable, but oh boy, would you be wrong. Lego Star Wars is the perfect way to disconnect from it all and just have some good old fashion fun.
I have become quite the fan of the Lego games and the Star Wars ones especially, it's like a double dose of nostalgia. Most of us grew up with Lego as well as Star Wars, so it is just a magical combination of both crammed into a video game. The game is easy playing, the puzzles are easy to solve, though they do take a bit thinking, so you might want to help a younger player. @princessmewmew and myself have played a few of the Lego games together, she loves the Indiana Jones Lego games a bit more than Star Wars, apparently this game has too many annoying "Pew Pew' sounds.
This Lego game follows the story plot line of the move The Force Awakens to the letter, with a few added extra back stories which was rather fun.
I would firstly recommend you watch the trailer above and then go watch the original teaser trailer for the movie here. The way they remade the original trailer in a Lego version was pretty awesome. Now if you are a Star Wars fan much like myself, I don't really need to fill you in that much about what is going on, but for those of you who aren't, let me update you.
The story takes place thirty years after what had happened in episode six, The Return of the Jedi, where Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance took on the Sith emperor and the Galactic Empire, and won. After this Galactic Civil War there was peace in the galaxy, but the remnants of the fallen empire began to rise again, this time known as the First Order. The only hope for peace now rests on The Resistance, led by General Leia Organa. Leia's main mission now is to find her missing brother, Luke Skywalker.
The story starts on the planet Jakku, where Poe Dameron, a resistance pilot, secretly meets with a village elder who has the map to the location of Luke.
The meeting is interrupted when Poe's droid BB-8 alerts him that Stormtroopers are inbound led by Kylo Ren, a dark powerful force user. Poe tries to escape but is captured. He is able to give the map to the little droid with the instructions to make sure it gets back to the Resistance.
BB-8 encounters a lonely scavenger girl Rey, who agrees to help the droid find the nearest outpost in order to find a ship. Meanwhile the captured Poe is tortured by Kylo Ren, and finally gives up the information that the map is with the droid. A traitor Stormtrooper named Finn helps Poe escape, but their Tie fighter is damaged and they crash land back on the planet Jakku, where they are separated. Finn manages to make it to the outpost where he runs into Rey and the little Droid just as the First Order attack, they band together and escape on a junk spaceship which just happens to be the Millennium Falcon.
"Forgive me. I feel it again... The pull to the light... Supreme Leader senses it. Show me again... The power of the darkness... And I'll let nothing stand in our way... Show me... Grandfather... and I will finish... what you started." - Kylo Ren
"The Force is strong in my family. My father has it. I have it. My sister has it. You have that power, too." - Luke Skywalker
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in my opinion the best Lego game to date, it's beautifully creative, well paced and just hours of all round fun.
The developers have really improved on their story telling, which was a bit disjointed in previous Lego titles. The game uses the exact dialog from the movie, so the story follows the same path, only in a much more comical way. If you are new to Lego games, the goofy comedy and well thought out gags really bring a fun, laughable aspect to the game. I would say it is the main theme found throughout the Lego games, and it works brilliantly.
The main campaign is somewhere between eight to twelve hours of play, and in my opinion, it's a nice easy game to attempt a platinum trophy on for my PlayStation or Xbox gamers. The game functions on the destroy, build, and collect mechanics, with some great puzzles in the mix, but they do tend to become a little repetitive and not much harder as you progress. There are also a few levels where you take command of different spaceships like the Falcon or in a Tie Fighter in flying battles, which gives it a nice break from the normal running around bashing everything in sight for coins. Oh! How the sound of falling coins becomes addictive with the Lego games, I sometimes hear them in my dreams.
Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game created and developed by TT Fusion, who have done every Lego video game out there.
There are a few of them from Lego Indiana Jones to Lego Harry Potter and even our very own dark knight, Lego Batman, and just for my friend @folken, Lego The Hobbit. @folken is a big Lord of the Rings fan. The game is under license from Lucasfilm, and was released by Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment.
Fun Fact: George Lucas kept the rights to all Star Wars merchandising.
This game is available on pretty much every gaming platform, iOS, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation Vita, Nvidia Shield and Wii U. They definitely went all out with this release, which was launched in June 2016.
I'm giving Lego The Force Awakens a rating of 8/10 because it was just pure fun.
In case you missed it, here is the previous game review
