"Love is like wildflowers; It's often found in the most unlikely places." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Can you believe I haven't run out of flowers yet? 💮
The desert does seem like such an unlikely place for wildflowers. My trip to the Anza Borrego Desert desert a couple weeks ago resulted in an incredible collection of photos. I'm still learning about new flowers with each of these articles.
Here is my latest photo flower lesson from that trip, taken by my Canon EOS M.

This flower's identity was also a little bit hard to discover.
I spotted a photo on a herpetology website that looked similar, found the "Desert Pincushion" common name, and then located this article on Wikipedia: Chaenactis fremontii.
A lone blossom rises well above its neighbors.
The Desert Pincushions look like they have hundreds of petals.

The sheer quantity of petals on each bloom is insane!
Here's another version of "Beauty and the Beast."

Dozens of insurgent Desert Pincushion blossoms nestle in defiance among the stalks of another wickedly spined cluster of cacti.
A veritable riot of blooms.
This photo contains lots of Desert Pincushions, Desert Dandelions, Purple Tansies, and one or two others that I'm still working on identifying.
