Visited a UNESCO World Heritage Site in China

Another Xi'an blog for you guys.

The Terracotta Warriors are the most famous tourist attraction in the city of Xi'an, China. Apparently, Emperor Qin, during the Qin Dynasty, wanted an army to protect him in the afterlife after he passed away. He instructed his men to build this amazing array of soldiers and chariots. There are 3 sites in the area and it was actually discovered by accident. If I remember correctly, some peasants were digging a hole in order to create a well and then they came across one of the sculptures. The entire area was excavated and people were shocked to discover what was buried underneath for centuries.

This trip took place during a a major national holiday. It was a nightmare. Way too many people.

After we got in, we went to the 3rd excavation because it was the least crowded.

Some of the soldiers were actually headless. I am not sure why.

I can't imagine how long all of this took. To make horses and soldiers with so much detail. As a matter of fact, every single one of the soldiers has a unique appearance.

The above photo was taken in the first site; the most crowded one. The number of people in here was absolutely insane. Everybody that comes to Xi'an needs to see the Terracotta Warriors and that's exactly what everyone did.

Chaos

Camera phones everywhere.

Look how cool these things are...

Unfortunately for my friend Johnathan, this was his first time here and it wasn't a great experience. There were far too many people so it was difficult to just stand and appreciate the soldiers from the front. Personally, I have been here before and got to see these sites without the ginormous crowds. This is a reminder to not travel during a Chinese national holiday!

Thanks for reading & watching!
