Follow Me in Beijing: Live Bands At "HouHai"

Hello Steem Blockchain!

In this video, Lillian and I head out to a famous bar street known as HouHai. I really like coming here because I can see a whole bunch of live band performances and choose whatever themed bar and lounge I want. There are so many to choose from. Last time I came here, I went to a reggae lounge and it was really cool. The people that perform at these venues are quite hip. You usually don't see people in dreadlocks when you roam the streets of China, but here, you can see a unique style that isn't easily found somewhere else.

Before entering HouHai, Lillian and I got some dinner at a small mom and pop restaurant. These restaurants usually have the best food. I was not disappointed with this place!

Top: Hong Shao Niu Rou. Braised beef in soy sauce. Bottom: Jiang Bao Ji Ding. Chicken cooked with a special sauce. Might be soybean paste.

After dinner, we trekked to the entrance of HouHai and could hear all the live bands playing. Every bar has it's own flavour!

When you walk inside, there is usually a live band playing and many people sitting around having a good time. I really wanted to go inside but we went on New Year's Eve. We didn't know that on this day, in order to go in, you need to spend at least 600 RMB! That's about $95 USD. I wasn't up for that because Lillian doesn't drink much and neither do I. We at least came to record some footage and get some B-roll for any future vids I put out.

This place also has some restaurants, but we already ate so we didn't go inside. Here is a picture of a big BBQ restaurant.

All in all, it was a little bit of a disappointing day. We didn't like that we couldn't go inside and just order enough drinks to satisfy us. I don't blame them though, there were MASSIVE crowds everywhere and this is their way to deal with the influx of people and make more money. It makes sense to only allow groups of people that will pay over 600 RMB (and still be at max capacity) then letting in groups of people that spend frugally and take up space haha.

Needless to say, I think this video pretty much sums up our entire experience on this day and it is definitely a place I recommend coming to as long as you aren't going on a special occasion like New Year's Eve.

Thanks for reading & watching!
