Rock climbing - reaching the top for the first time 攀岩 - 第一次登頂

For those of you who have never done outdoors rock climbing, each route has a level assigned to it. There are different systems of grading, in Australia we use the Ewbanks system, which was developed by John Ewbank in the 1960s. The levels are represented by single number. At Kaganroo Point (well known climbing spot in Brisbane), the easiest climb is level 3 and the hardest climb is level 27. It has taken me 2 years to reach level 13.

Here is a picture of me getting to the top of a level 13 climb called Nightfell, which sounds quite scary and looks scary too. For those of you who are wondering, getting to the top means touching the carabiner at the top (where my right hand is). Once you touch the carabiner, you can say you have reached the top.

The first time I tried this climb was two years ago. Unfortunately it was too hard for me at the time. I guess you can say it took me two years to get on top of this climb. The feeling once I got to the top was unbelievable. It felt like one of my proudest achievements of my life, since I conquered something that I found very difficult for me.

Persistence is the key to success. Even though I have “failed” many times before, I did not think of them as failures. I knew I was getting stronger each time and I was getting closer and closer to my goal. The most important part is I didn’t give up, I kept on going. It’s hard to fail if you keep trying at something.
