I found a Thing
I was stumbling about this big bad interwebs of ours the other day and discovered this thing called Scorum. It's a sports site, which is something that would normally send me running and hiding.
I'm not a sports type person. I do like sport, but only playing it. People who talk about popular sporting teams and how good one person is at catching and throwing a ball perplex me. I don't understand all the chatter about how well a team did with transferring a ball from one end of a field to another.
All that said though, it seems that talking about sport is a thing. And a thing that people are very fond of doing. The reason why I didn't run and hide when I came across Scorum is for a couple of reasons.
- It's a site where people can earn cryptocurrency while writing about sport.
- They talk about online poker there. Which is something that I actually like doing.
So, as weird as it seems to me, I made an account there to try my hand at writing a few things. Mt first post made me a whopping $1.61. And my second and third post a combined 16 cents. But that doesn't really deter me.
So what currency did I earn?
Scorum have their own blockchain and currency. And the currency is called... wait for it... Scorum.
We've seen the Steemit rip offs before (anyone discovered the joke that is Weku yet?) and normally these rip off sites don't have their coins listed on any exchanges. So when checking Coin Gecko, I was pleased to see that Scorum is actually listed on an exchange. Not a good one mind you, but it is on an exchange which gives it some validity. The volume is a little low at this stage, but at least I can convert my $1.77 to Bitcoin soon.
Is Scorum a new thing?
I tried very quickly to see how old Scorum is. Some posts on the site are saying a couple of years old and others are saying only a couple of months. So that confuses me. The thing that interests me most is the strength of the community here, and it does seem to be strong and growing.
From what I can gather there are around 40,000 - 50,000 active users on the platform, and it operates in a very similar manner to Steemit. You have Scorum Power, you have voting power that drops as you cast your votes, and you're awarded Scorum in an identical way to Steemit. The similarities aren't exactly coincidence, Scorum is actually a fork of the Steem blockchain. The point of difference is that users are really only focused on sports and gambling. So cryptocurrency posts don't perform all that well, but posts about your most popular sports do very well.
Is it worth spending time on Scorum?
What's interesting about this platform is that if you're posting about a topic that isn't heavily written about already, your post (no matter how little it has earned) will sit in the trending section for quite some time, meaning that you'll get some decent exposure without having to receive some whale votes.
While sports sites aren't my usual thing, I could happily post about my time playing poker here. So I'll probably do that for a while to see if I can make a thing of this thing.
I like the interface that Scorum have built. It's very intuitive and easy to use. So that makes posting pretty simple and quick.
And one little heads up, if you do want to post on Scorum then get on over and create an account quickly. Given the small user base at the moment, there are still some really good usernames available. So grab a couple now while you can.
