An Evening at the Delightful Ruhits / 印度风情餐馆 Ruhits

There is this awesome local Indian restaurant called Ruhits near to the vet where I used to bring my cat for her annual checkup. I always wanted to try it out but never had the chance. Well, I finally decided to make the time for it last weekend and was very pleasantly surprised as this has got to be the most authentic Indian restaurant this side of North West London!

Located in Sidmouth Rd, around the NW10 area, Ruhits restaurant welcomes its patrons with a decorative shop front. There are even a few tables situated on the pavement outside, which is perfect in the summer to relax and watch the world go by.

Once inside, you soon realize that it is quite a small establishment but very cozy and snug at the same time. There are lovely artworks displayed around the room with nice mood lighting for some pleasing background ambiance. The only issue being the images came out a little dark so apologies for that. If you plan to eat here on the weekend, I would suggest you book your table well in advance as the restaurant can get busy quite quickly, including the occasional week nights too.

The menu is well presented, offering dishes from India and Bangladesh to eat there or take away. It should be mentioned that any special dietary requirements are always catered for. If there is any dish you desire, but is not found on their menu, they can "tweak" their existing dishes to personalise it more to your preferred taste. That’s a nice touch as not many restaurants I know do that.

I was impressed with the table setting, with these lovely folded napkin in the shape of a flower as well as the candle and actual flower in a vase, all creating a lovely romantic atmosphere.

I ordered my usual mango lassi, which was less thick than I expected though still delicious. Duty staff were attentive and very friendly. Not long after we sat down, they brought us the papadum and dipping sauces. Perfect so far!

The Starter

Meat Samosa & Onion Bhaji are usually the appetizers we normally go for. They were prepared quite well, with just the right amount of seasoning and spice.

Feeling particularly adventurous, we also explored the King Prawn Butterfly dish, which is king prawns marinated in butter and shaped like a butterfly! It was presented nicely with the homemade sauce trimmings and I am telling you, it tasted just as good as it looked!

The Main

We opted for three dishes as our main. These were:

The hearty Butter Chicken packed a serious punch of flavour, so rich and creamy. It was wonderful and went perfectly well with the Naan bread that was freshly baked and so tasty!

Balti Mutton Rogan Josh is one of my favourite Indian dishes. The goat meat was cooked very nicely and tender after many long hours of cooking time. This is one of the reasons I love Indian so much. They don’t ever rush to get the food out to the customer, hence from my experience the meat is always cooked to perfection! This curry dish from Ruhit has the signature lush red colour, the favour being mild with a beautiful array of flavoursome spices. Just perfect!

The last but not the least was the Lamb Biryani. It was packed with deep and exciting character and a good helping of delicious spices. The lamb meat inside was suitably moist and absolutely delightful. As per usual, it also comes with a separate vegetable curry sauce.

Dessert

After consuming all those amazing food, we had to share last one dessert between us. What can be better than an ice-cold mango kulfi? When the waiter bought the bowl over, I almost burst into tears of laughter because of its unique shape, lol! Though it was very refreshing and a total delight for your taste buds!

The evening at Ruhits was highly enjoyable, primarily because of the sheer excellence of the food on offer. At the end of the night, a complementary drink (two shots of baileys) were kindly brought over, "on the house". With a final touch of fresh orange slices and mint chocolate! The prices are more than competitive with the average London standards. Strongly recommended and I would definitely come back to try out the other dishes they have.
