The bitcoin hashrate is now mostly owned by 4 Chinese company that can decide of the future of the bitcoin.
With a worldwide decentralized technology, you have to consider who has access to your technology in the world. And in the world, there's a lot of Chinese people writing in Chinese (or mandarin if you prefer) who have access to it.
If Steem is massively adopted by the whole planet, you can expect that many of the posts published here will be written in Chinese (25-50%). Obviously, Chinese people can be interested in using it as an uncensored, unstoppable medium. In that case, you can expect that you will have to share the space with them. Or create subsections somehow.
Of course, it's quite probable that there will be a Chinese copycat of Steem appearing at some point. But there is a few things against it:
1) The computers keeping that copycat blockchain alive will have to be located out of China, again to avoid censorship.
2) If some Chinese people invest in Steem, they may not want to leave it for another platform especially if they have 2 years to wait to withdraw their Steem Power.
Do you think it will happen ?
