This is a popular traditional bun from Hong Kong called 'Buttered Pineapple Bun' and also known as 'Bo Lo Yau'. Alot of people assume a pineapple bun has pineapple in it or is pineapple flavoured but it actually has zero pineapple in it. It's called a pineapple bun because the top of the bun looks like a pineapple.
The top of the bun is sweet and crispy and compliments the slab of butter in the middle of the bun. This bun is served hot to allow the butter in the middle to melt. A very tasty bun and best consumed during afternoon tea with a cup of coffee, tea or even milk tea if you're not counting calories 😋
