Yesterday, we organized an awareness program on waste management in Sylhet. The program was organized by Road To 2030 which main objectives to achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. We gathered together under the project Dirty Sylhet. All together, Road To 2030 working with 3 sister projects @SchoolForSDG4 , @WomenEmpowerment and recent @DirtySylhet. Dirty Sylhet is focusing on SDG11 which is Sustainable cities and communities.
Our main objective was to create awareness and build a facbook community to collect pictures of uncollected waste as evidence.
It was our second public meeting. The first meeting was at Taradin Chinese Restaurants, Sylhet. The restaurant sponsored our previous event and also have strong commitment to contribute in our Dirty Sylhet Campaign.
Around 15 youths from different corners of Sylhet City joined the program and shared their opinion.
We have 27 Wards under Sylhet City Corporation. Dirty Sylhet would like to participate in Sustainable Development goals as support institution within government administration. We are non-political social institution.
We are so lucky that Ehtasham Haque joined with us to support our movement since the beginning. I am so happy as I shared the thought with right person and such a great young man who has wish to collaborate the Dirty Sylhet Awareness campaign project. Yesterday, he was leading us during the dialogue session. Ehtasham Haque is a young entrepreneur and doing PhD in UK.
Participants are sharing their opinions and volunteerism experience on waste management. It is true that volunteerism is a so great job but there are not such a way to support them and this do not support their future. Many do hard job in field level but people who has power of mouth gets dignity and respect. Some has argue on how we can make the successful without field work ?
We have sorted out several issue should take place.
- Educate house keepers, Gate Man, Neighbor , family members about waste management.
- Create Dialogue session in every wards.
- Develop human resources.
- Select representatives from every wards.
- Create Flat/ decentralize decision making platform.
- Page role distribution to every representatives and share pictures of uncollected waste as evidence from different corners of Sylhet city
- Identify lacking, let's know other and add people to our page.
We are also hoping to get more suggestions. Please share your idea if you are experienced in.
I was taking note when participants were sharing their opinions. Let's hope we will able to contribute on SDG11 and make our city more nice. Education can change mind, let's educate children and they are future of world. Our next generation should grow with imbalance social and educational infrastructure.
