By anxiety we are referring to a type of psychologically based discomfort in which the individual is always endeavoring to resolve but can never quite “do” the thing required to do so.
We have anxiety about the future in which we feel we must solve some problems in the present or in the future. There is also anxiety in the past, about events that happened which we might wish we could change or might have infused trauma into the individuals' psyche.
The mind gets stuck in a pattern, fueling its own disharmony, perpetually creating anxiety based on problems it's not actually facing in the present moment.
And so there is a self perpetuating process isn't there?
Actually addressing this illness needs a very special, crafty solution.
Attempts to suppress anxiety with actions or solutions simply add fuel to the already raging fire.
Anxiety, which is really also a form of fear, causes us to want to escape before we even understand what we are escaping from and why we are running (we can run physically or we can run psychologically).
Addiction is this form of escape, both mentally and psychically.
Doesn't the addict always perpetually talk about how they are going to solve their problems? Doesn't the addict function from an agitated state of mind?
The addict never faces their problems WITHOUT trying to deny or escape them.
And so the questions arise, that one might ask ONESELF:
"Can I look at my anxiety without trying to fix it?"
"What happens to my level of anxiety when I observe it without trying to escape or change it?"
The questions are medicine, but you cannot just hypothesize and philosophize about them in order for them to heal a mind. The MIND must TAKE the medicine, it must begin to observe its own ill state, and ask itself what are the effects of such observation.
The individual must FACE their anxiety; this means not immediately trying to solve it.
When the mind moves in this direction, it breaks the pattern that is causing the disorder.
This can be seen as a technique (although it is really not), and over time, like doing push-ups, the mind will grow stronger at this. Then the function of the mind will be in a different direction and it will gain its own strength in regard to functioning IN order.
It will stop addressing problems that cannot be solved nor problems that unnecessarily arise.
The “exercise” costs no money or energy.
