This Sunday I cooked
Polvo à lagareiro (Octopus with potatoes in the oven)
I wanted something special and different for this weekend so I decided to cook octopus, one of my favorite dishes.
Guess what?!
This is on of the traditional dishes from Portugal!! Anyone visiting Portugal will be able to find this in a local restaurant. It's easy to cook and combines garlic, cilantro and olive oil flavors in a very vibrant and fragrant sauce!
I already cooked this before, but this time I totally nailed it!
I get some inspiration in this two recipes: recipe 1 and recipe 2, but I've made some changes (I always give a personal touch!) and it get perfect!!
Ingredients
- octopus (2 Kg)
- small potatoes
- 1 medium onion
- parsil
- cilantro (lots of it)
- 15 garlic cloves
- 1 bay leaf
- sal (to taste)
- olive oil (lots of it)
Preparation
Clean and wash the octopus. Place it in a pan with boiling water seasoned with a sprig of parsley and the unpeeled onion. Let it cook about 1 hour (if you put in a pressure cooker, it will cook in 35 minutes). Usually, they say the octopus is cooked when the onion gets soft.
Wash the unpeeled potatoes and place it in another pan with water seasoned with a little salt and cook. When they are cooked, drain the water and set aside.
Preheat the oven at 180°C / (350ºF). In a different pot add chopped cilantro and 5 garlic cloves (smash the other 10). Add the bay leaf and cover it with olive oil.
Place the octopus in a baking dish. Slightly smash the cooked potatoes and place it in the baking dish. Bring the olive oil sauce to boil and as soon as it starts to boil sprinkle the octopus and the potatoes with this sauce.
Put in the oven about 30 to 35 minutes. Once in a while drizzle with their own sauce.
6 - It's ready to serve!!
It wasn't necessary, but I served this one with galician cabbage (very traditional at Christmas time).
Happy New Year!!
I will come back with another Sunday cook delicious :D Stay tuned!!
What is Sunday Cook?!
These Sunday Cook project began with a strong will to contribute to Steemit with one of my best features and to share a part of my life with the community. At the same time, I want to show Portuguese cuisine to you! I'm not a professional or nothing similar, I only can assure you that I'll do my best!
On Sundays, I like to prepare more elaborate and delicious food. It requires time and patient. Usually, I cook some traditional Portuguese food, or at least with Portuguese inspiration :) I try to do it in a healthier way, using the minimum fat as possible, and normally I pick some recipe and transform it. I like to make it practical and leave the minimum dishes to wash...as I don't have a dishwasher machine!
During the week I don't like to spend much time cooking (no time at all), that's why I get totally motivated to cook on Sundays!!
