Recipe & life things: Banana spinach smoothie

Has it ever happened to you that one day you look at yourself in the mirror and go like "whoa, wtf where is all that fat coming from!?"

Well, it happened to me. Not that I look like a walrus or anything but you know what I mean. The process of putting on weight is very sneaky.

One day you are fit, next thing you know you are blown up, your back hurts, knees hurt, going up and down one flight of stairs is freakin' hell. So I decided to change my lifestyle a little bit. You know, like my eating habits. Now, mind you, I am a person who can eat as much as one gives me. Not just that I love eating junk food, but I am almost always hungry. So I thought, "what if I ate things for my breakfast which were delicious, which would fill me up, and which don't look like a mush and disgusts me?"

I needed something which was hundred percent tasty BUT healthy. So I decided, smoothies!

So what healthy things do I have? Banana? Umm spinach? Okay, very well then. There you have it, my ingredients to make this cheap, easy and delicious thang.

I want minimum effort and maximum result.

Bananas are great for heart health and weight loss. They have a lot of antioxidants too as well good amount of fiber. Next thing was spinach. Now all of you must be like blegh spinach, ew. Well I am one of you guys, but the best thing is that you don't taste the spinach at all. Don't ask me how. I have given myself the name of "smoothie-ninja" for this reason!

No bad taste shall pass my mouth. I mean that's like Gandalf, but, whatever.

Point is, I used spinach because first of all it's green crap, so free vitamin A. Further it has Vitamin C, E and K. It's rich in thiamin, niacin, zinc, protein, fiber, iron, calcium and a billion more things!

Next thing, spices. Which would give flavor but somehow not make it unhealthy on any level and would help me burn fat. So cinnamon popped into my head. It ranks number one in its antioxidant properties, its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, immunity-boosting and can protect you from heart diseases and cancer as well! It has zero grams of fat or sugar and is rich in manganese. It boosts your metabolism too. What more do I want?! Also, banana and cinnamon?! Nomnom! It's not like you have to use crap load of it, I mean we all saw what happened in the cinnamon challenge.. You don't want that happening to you. So just use a pinch of cinnamon powder.

And my last ingredient was yoghurt. I'm not a calorie counting weirdo, because then I would seriously start to hate my life. You can use fat free yoghurt if you want, but I used this fruit yoghurt (passion fruit and maracuja flavour). Any kind of yoghurt you use is good though.

So those were my ingredients. They are very simple, cheap and easily available.

Ingredients:
- A fist of spinach leaves
(Both baby or normal kind are okay. Ofcourse the more you use, more the taste becomes pronounced, but still it won't be bad. I have tried with various amounts of spinach.)
- Two medium-sized bananas
- Very tiny pinch of Cinnamon
- Half a glass of water
(You can use ice cubes instead of water for more chills!)
- 150g yoghurt
(You can use fat free, flavoured yoghurt, or whatever you like. It's okay to use any kind of yogurt.)

Procedure:
Now that you all collected your stuff, it's all very easy. Just put them all together in your mixer-juicer thingy or smoothie maker. Whatever you need to use, just use it! I have an all in one machine so I just use the smoothie setting. And mix it till it's smooth according to your satisfaction.

All in all, this smoothie is very refreshing, it has negligible amount of fat and whichever fats are in there are the healthy kind. Remind that you actually need to function! It will keep you really full. And you will feel like you did at least one healthy thing for your body. It always begins with one healthy step at a time.
I hope you liked this one. I plan to write more of such posts as I continue on my way to fitness. ahum

Stay tuned.
