A Review Of The Star Wars Book - Maul: Lockdown

Before heading out on a grand travel trip across Asia, I stocked up on audio books for the many plane rides and time spent on buses getting from city to city.

One of the books I chose was Maul: Lockdown by Joe Schreiber.

It did not disappoint.

The Premise

About a year before the events of Episode I The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul is sent on a mission via Lord Sidious to the infamous galactic space prison called Cog Hive Seven. His mission is simply to find the mysterious and elusive weapons merchant known as Iram Radique.

Maul is instructed to not use the Force, as Sidious does not want the Sith or the Sith plans to be discovered.

This leaves Maul in unique positions where he can't rely on the Force and must still escape a situation or battle a foe.

To make things even more interesting, The space prison is modular in design and reconfigures itself to match up the prisoners for gladiatorial fights. The fights are organized by the prison warden and act a a part of the underworld gambling rings.

What I liked

The book is full of plot twists. Just when you think you know how the situation will go, something very unexpected happens.

If you read it or listen to the audiobook as I did, you truly see how badass Darth Maul is. He has epic fights and proves he is both a strong and smart Sith.
