Once upon a time a junior doctor named Roger Bannister proved to the world that it was not impossible for the human body to travel a mile in under 4 minutes.
The feat is all the more impressive given the lack of technology and science that now influences elite and amateur athletes alike.
Here's an article I wrote a little while ago looking at the history of the mile: https://runningdanw.wordpress.com/2016/05/06/breaking-the-barrier-the-4-minute-mile/
Sadly, at the age of 88, Sir Roger passed away this weekend.
The 60th anniversary of his record was what inspired me to take to the track and race the mile.
I'm some way off a 4 minute mile but I continue to search for the limit of my own ability. I'm training to push beyond 5:50 this year.
Keep an eye out for a summer running challenge called #RunYourMile coming soon.
