Beware : The Ongoing Phishing Scam

Beware : The Ongoing Phishing Scam

These scammers like to comment on your post / article or blog with links attached in the hopes of you clicking the link so they can scam you.

There is some protection against these scams here on Steemit. Such as @guard which detects such links and then replies with a comment of its own to warn people. The scammers have seen this and some have changed their tactics, and are now posting comments without the actual link, so they stay under the radar of the @guard bot. Below is a picture of such a comment.

If you see any message like the above, DO NOT go to the site. These scammers don't stop at just posting messages on your articles. They also like to send these type of scam links to your wallet message area as well. So keep an eye out for such links so you don't become their next victim !

What can I do if I see such a link ?

You can Contact @arcange via steem.chat with the accounts name of the suspected phishing link. The account will then be put on a black-list of a warning bot. Once the scammer is on that list a warning will automatically be placed under the scammers post.

Prevention : Protect Yourself !

  • Double check any link before clicking on it.
  • Be extra careful with links that take you away from steemit.com.
  • Take note of the reputation of the steemian who's link you are about to click .

While a low rep score doesn't mean that the poster is a scammer it should raise some red flags and cause you to dig a little deeper into the member's account before clicking any links.
