A Great Way To Spend A Morning With a 5th Grader

I had the great thrill of working with my fiance's 5th grader son. He has a science project due this week. He selected an experiment that would take breathe mints and test to see if adding them to a glass of water would decrease the temperature. This is because every one knows that you get a cool fresh minty breathe.

The best part of the experiment was keeping the experimenter on task. It got so bad with him zooming around the dining room with his Heel Wheels.

"Get back here. The timer is getting ready to buzz. Hurry!"

Another thing that was satisfying for me was to be able to pass on words of wisdom. The number one lesson was to always watch out for error from measurement either through the measurement device (parallax) and your own biases.

Overall it was very fun and enjoyable. Below you will find all the pictures of the fun morning.

A. Control - Just a glass of water
B. Mentos
C. Altoids
D. IceBreakers

Conclusion of the experiment is that breathe mints do not decrease temperature.
