One Day at ChlorPars Company - Producing Chlorine

Recently I visited Chlor Pars (ChloroPars) Company, Which is producing Chlorine, Chlorine derivatives, Hydrogen, synthetic hydrochloric acid. Right now they produce About 8 product of Chlorine derivatives. one of Chemical Engineers Told They have Plan to add yearly 2 new product to their production line.

as you know, Chlorine can be found in Salt. By electrolyzing it is possible to remove chlorine from salt. They are Using Salt to Produce Chlorine and other Products, For this purpose, they have bought Private Salt mine.

(Maybe the following information are secrets of the company, so I tried to censor most of them)

This place is very dangerous place in the company, as you can see in the image above, each machine includes about 20 cathodes and 20 anodes for electrolyzing Salt. By touching one of them, you will die. because of ~3 MW electricity. Also, this place is very hot. between each cathode and anode is one Membrane, Membrane is a large page, like a sheet. the price of each membrane is about $1,000! and membranes can be damaged by Power fluctuations.

They used a Trick to reduce membranes damage. Salt Fluid entrance is in the top of machines, they build cathode side a bit upper than anode side. by this way, a little pressure will be created on the cathode side of the membrane and it will be stick to the anode side, so fluid flow can't move membrane.

Output product of this process is chlorine and hydrogen. The hydrogen output pipe at the top and the chlorine output pipe are at the bottom. Hydrogen pipe pressure is more than atmospheric pressure because hydrogen can explode and burn with air. by this way, if pipe gets damaged, hydrogen will burn on the outside of pipe and system will be safe.

Also, Chlorine pipe pressure is less than atmospheric pressure because Chlorine is toxic. if pipe gets damaged chlorine can kill workers. by this way, chlorine will stay at inside the pipe and Work Place will be safe.
