Introducing the all new MystiFACT-or-FICTION Challenge!

To those who follow me and frequently read my articles: I understand you may be slightly overwhelmed by all the scientific knowledge that has been bombarding your brain over the past month. I believe it is time to get a little bit more intimate with you guys and release a challenge which we can both participate in. It is interactive and more importantly, fun, with a nice reward coming out of the other side!

MystiFACT-or-FICTION

As promised this challenge will be entertaining and engaging. Let’s dive right into it!

What is SteemSTEM?

SteemSTEM is currently the biggest Science community on Steemit. It is a welcoming community full of people who love Science, and this challenge is to reach out to all of you so that you can reap the benefits of being a part of it!

Challenge Introduction

The concept of this challenge is simple. Firstly, I write and release an article with a title similar to: MystiFACT-or-FICTION challenge #1 - Why Can We See Through Glass?

In this article, I will subtly place a scientific mistake. Your task is to find this mistake – correct it – then write an article based around this corrected mistake. The most interesting and well-presented entries win the challenge!

Example response

Let’s take MystiFACT-or-FICTION challenge #1 - Why Can We See Through Glass? as an example.

After reading the article and discovering the mistake, which could have been:

Glass is made by melting salt, and cooling it into the shape you want.

Your next job is to correct this mistake by doing some research. The correction you will find is:

Glass is made by melting sand, and cooling it into the shape you want.

Now you should come up with a creative article idea, based around this fact. Examples of some articles could be as follows:

• Where does sand come from?
• How do glasses correct blurred vision?
• Why is the beach windy?

Notice how these questions wander off the corrected mistake by quite a lot. That is fine - in fact, I encourage you to get your creative juices flowing! This will definitely work in your favour and will increase your chances of winning.

For the sake of keeping the challenge fun, I won’t make the mistake hard to find!

I will also add a hint to the end of each challenge article.

Your next job is to create your article! Please put the corrected mistake somewhere in your article to prove you have found it! The title must be of the format:

MystiFACT-or-FICTION response #1 – Why is the beach windy?

All done…almost. There are a few more rules to validate your response!

Challenge rules

To successfully enter the challenge there are a few ground rules (sorry).

  1. You must add the tag #mystifact to your article before you publish it so that I can find it!

  2. The title of your response must be of the format: MystiFACT-or-FICTION response #1 – Name of your article

  3. Re-steem the article containing the scientific mistake – in this case it would be the article: MystiFACT-or-FICTION challenge #1 - Why Can We See Through Glass?

  4. Follow myself and the SteemSTEM project if you haven’t yet done so!

  5. Your response must be submitted within the following 7 days of the article release date.
