Drones have become increasingly popular over the last couple of years.
They now come in various different sizes, price categories and features.
So of course, at this year's CES in Las Vegas there were many new product launches and a lot of them were drones.
But what if you would combine the trend-product of a drone with another trend - selfies?!
Selfies have been a huge hype in the last couple of years, and there have been many products to make selfies easier and more beautiful - selfie sticks, ring lights for better selfies, and even phone cases that you can stick somewhere to take the perfect selfie. Because sometimes, your arm just isn't long enough.
ROAM-e : A Selfie Drone
Now, it seems like we're at the next evolutionary step of selfies - a selfie drone.
The ROAM-e is a flying camera that takes perfect selfies from a distance!
It has successfully completed a kickstarter campaign last year and was now on display to the public at CES, and is available for purchase at $399.
Sure, ROAM-e can't be compared to high end drones from Parrot or DJI. But that's not the aim.
ROAM-e wants to keep it simple, and make it possible for anyone to shoot their own drone footage.
IOT Group, the creators of ROAM-e, prefer to call it a selfie product rather than an actual miniature drone.
‘It's a selfie product. It's not a drone. It's not for spying. It's a fun product like the Walkman was for music and led to the iPod so the ROAM-e is for selfies.-Ian Duffell, Executive Director
Features
ROAM-e offers 20 minutes of flight time, takes pictures in 1080 p quality and videos in 720p quality.
It can fly up to 25m high and can take 360 degree pictures.
This is far from a professional level, but it will be enough to post on your social media accounts, which is what the creators intended: you can share your footage with just one simple click on your social media channels, or live-stream it directly.
Facial Recognition
ROAM-e has built-in facial recognition, and it can recognize multiple people.
Since it's not manually controlled, it will follow you around and make sure that you're always in shot. And of course, it has obstacle avoidance to prevent it from crashing into other objects!
"It’s down to facial recognition. It remembers your face - even if you turn to the side. If you turn around completely it will remain in the one place and hover and wait for you! It's tethered to your face."-Ian Duffell, Executive Director
What's your opinion - would you buy a Selfie Drone? Do you think this gadget could become a success ?!
