Steamed Vegetables with Lemon-Cayenne Twist (Week One of the Six Week Challenge)

Healthy eating can be simple if you know how to work with what you have. A little element of creativity can also give that twist in a healthy food.

When I found out about the #sixweekhealth challenge, I got excited to join. I found out about it just today, so I immediately thought of how I can join despite the limited time I have. This is when being resourceful becomes so useful. I checked the food items available at home.

At first, I had a hard time deciding which ingredients to use. But since I love Broccoli, I chose it over the other vegetables. I added carrots for added nutrition in the meal. Also, I remembered that the broccoli and the carrots are also part of the 3-day Military Diet I tried before. I put egg on the side so that there will be a protein source in the meal.

Since this challenge says that the food should be a new recipe, I thought of how I could add twist to the dish. When I saw the lemon in the refrigerator, I thought that the juice would add taste to the plain steamed vegetables. Then, I remembered that a few years ago, when I did the 10-day Master Cleanse, ground cayenne pepper is added to the lemon-water mixture. Cayenne pepper is also good for those aiming to lose weight. And so, I got the ground cayenne pepper and mixed it with the fresh lemon juice.

I decided to call this dish Steamed Vegetables with Lemon-Cayenne Twist. When I tried eating the dish, I am quite surprised that the Lemon-cayenne juice I made complemented the steamed vegetables. I enjoyed eating and got a feeling of fulfillment with this food experiment I made.
