The theme for this week was "Island music" - and as it happens, I LOVE island music. Specifically from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, home of the calypso and soca styles that inspired me to make "Everluv". I used a chilled-out soca beat, syncopated high-on-the-neck guitar and a steel pan riff to evoke the relaxed, beachy vibe of the music I love, as well as a little bit of horn in a nod to Lord Kitchener. Granted, the song is a lot slower than what you might hear actualyl coming from those islands at the bottom of the Carribean, but I wrote kind of sad, longing lyrics so it seemed to work.
